OVERVIEW

A clean, comfortable home

Our light housekeeping keeps your loved one’s home tidy, orderly, and safe. Caregivers handle laundry and linens, dishes and kitchen cleanup, dusting, vacuuming, and general tidying — the everyday tasks that keep a home comfortable and free of clutter and hazards.

Every routine is built around the individual: their home, their preferences, and the tasks that matter most. As needs change, we adjust, so the home stays clean and safe without disrupting the comfort of familiar surroundings.

Understanding LIGHT HOUSKEEPING

A home that stays safe and comfortable

A tidy, orderly home is about far more than appearances. Clutter on the floor and stairs is a leading cause of falls; a pile of laundry or a sink of dishes can quietly signal that daily tasks have become overwhelming. As bending, lifting, and standing grow harder with age, housekeeping is often one of the first things to slip. In-home light housekeeping keeps the living space clean, comfortable, and safe u2014 without asking your loved one to overexert themselves.

For families across Scranton, Carbondale, and the surrounding Northeast Pennsylvania communities, light housekeeping brings quiet reassurance. A clean home reduces fall hazards, supports health and hygiene, and lifts the spirits u2014 giving adult children peace of mind that a parent lives in comfortable, dignified surroundings every day.

Who benefits from light housekeeping?

Light housekeeping is ideal for seniors who find bending, lifting, and standing tiring or unsafe, those recovering from surgery, and anyone whose home has become difficult to keep up with. It is equally valuable for family caregivers who want a parentu2019s home to stay clean and hazard-free between their own visits.

Common Questions

Answers for families considering senior care services

Yes. Caring at Home provides home care services seven days a week, including evenings and weekends. Our management team is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Your loved one’s needs do not follow a business schedule, and neither do we.

Caring at Home has the ability to place a caregiver the same day you call in many cases. We understand that care needs can arise suddenly, especially following a hospital stay or a change in a loved one’s condition. Reach out to our Utica office, and we will move as quickly as your family needs us to.

There is rarely one clear moment. More often, families notice a gradual accumulation of small signs: a parent forgetting meals, letting the house go, withdrawing from activities they used to love, or having trouble with basic tasks like bathing or getting dressed. If you have found yourself worrying more during visits, or spending your own time managing things they used to handle independently, it may be time to have a conversation. We are here to help you think it through, not push you into a decision.

Home health care refers to medically supervised services, such as skilled nursing, wound care, or physical therapy, ordered by a physician and typically covered by Medicare. Home care, which is what Caring at Home provides, focuses on non-medical support: help with bathing, dressing, meals, companionship, light housekeeping, and daily living activities. Both types of care can be provided at home, and many families receive both at the same time following a hospitalization or health event.

Medicare may cover some skilled nursing or physical therapy services provided at home under very specific conditions — you must be homebound and need part-time or intermittent skilled care — but it does not cover non-medical companion care, personal care assistance, or most of the services Caring at Home provides. Long-term care insurance policies often do cover these services. Our team is happy to help you think through your options during your free assessment.

The cost of home care in Utica, PA varies based on the type of care needed and the number of hours per week. Caring at Home offers flexible scheduling so families can start with the hours that make sense for their budget and adjust over time. During your free in-home assessment, our care coordinator will walk you through all of the options.
